First time homebuyers program
In Partnership with MEDA

    How the Homeownership Program Works

    1. Orientation – 1.5 hours – Thursday, August 21, 2008, 5:00-6:30pm

    2.  Certification Class - Monday, August 25 & Thursday, August 28, 2008,  
    5:00-9:00pm at the Bayanihan Community Center – 1010 Mission Street near 6th Street  
    (An 8-hour certification from a Homeownership Program is a requirement for many first-time homebuyer loans and government programs.)

    3. Individual Counseling Session – 1-2 hours

    4. Follow-up & Post-Purchase Counseling

    In the class, we will review the steps in purchasing a home including:

    • Preparing for homeownership
    • Getting a Mortgage
    • Shopping for a Home
    • Keeping your Home and Managing your Finances

    We will also provide information about first time homebuyer programs available in San Francisco and how they work, and provide individual counseling support after you receive the certification.

    The certification class is required for families wishing to apply for most of the affordable homeownership properties available in SF. No charge to attend class!

* 7 - 8 week Beginner's Class (15 hours): mid-late September

* 5 - week Intermediate Class (10 hours): early November

Instructor: Karen Llagas is a Native Tagalog and English speaker who grew up in the Philippines and is currently based in San Francisco. She has many years of teaching, interpreting and translating experience for different companies. She earned her BA from Ateneo de Manila in the Philippines and her MFA from Warren Wilson College in NC.

Barter your email and coordinating skills for Tagalog lessons! The teacher, Karen Llagas, is looking for someone patient, organized and web-savvy to help coordinate the upcoming classes.
