6:30PM: Parol Lantern Performances featuring 20+ Contingents in St. Patrick's Church
The 2009 Parol Lantern Festival & Parade will be held on Saturday, December 12th, 2009 at 6:30PM in St. Patrick's Church. The holiday festival will kick-off with Hot chocolate, Spanish sweet bread, and a Parol photo booth. The program festivities will take place in St. Patrick's Church starting at 6:30PM.

In addition, ALL Parol Lantern Parade contingents must send a member to attend a Parol Contingent Orientation at Bayanihan Community Center on:
MONDAY, DECEMBER 7th, 6:30-8:30PM
OR
TUESDAY, DECEMBER 8th, 6:30-8:30PM
REGISTRATION FEE There is a $25 registration fee for all participating contingents. Payments can be made online when registering or in person at the Bayanihan Community Center, 1010 Mission St. San Francisco, CA.
PAROL-MAKING WORKSHOPS The Bayanihan Community Center (BCC) will be hosting free parol-making workshops Fridays from 5:00PM-8:00PM starting Friday, October 2nd. Click here to learn step by step "HOW TO MAKE A PAROL"
PASKO! at ASIAN ART MUSEUM- free admission!
Celebrate Pasko, the Filipino Christmas, and explore the parol, the illuminated star, a symbol of community, which helps define Filipino Christmas festivities. Attend a lecture on the art of parol with MC Canlas of the Bayanihan Community Center and the Filipino American Development Foundation in the Education Studios from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm, and then learn how to make your own parol at a workshop led by members of the Bayanihan Community Center from 1:00 to 4:00 pm. Also on hand are artists Christian Cabuay and Ray Haguisan, putting a contemporary spin on the ancient Tagalog script, Baybayin. You won't want to miss this!

We highly encourage past festival participants and contingents to re-use their parol frames from previous years, and to decorate them with "green" or recycled materials.
Please note we can only offer ONE free parol per person at the BCC workshops. Additional parols can be purchased by donation at these Friday parol-making workshops.
TALA AWARDS ALL participating parade contingents are eligible to compete for a highly coveted Tala Award! Since our theme is "Light the Way, Be Counted!," we are adding a new Census Award, which will be presented to the contingent who shows its strength in numbers through the most marchers and LIT parol lanterns! Judges will be scoring parols based on 1) creativity/innovation, and 2) design/aesthetics. Please remember that you will be asked to arrive early on the day of the parade for judging.

REQUIRED FORMS All contingents participating in this year's festival & parade must complete TWO FORMS:
1) Contingent Registration Form (available online NOW) due by October 15, 2009. 2) Production Information Form (available online Nov 1) due November 23, 2009.
If unable to complete the forms online, they may also be submitted in person, by mail, or fax to the Bayanihan Community Center, 1010 Mission St. Ste B. San Francisco, CA 94103, Fax: 415-974-0349. Emailed forms will not be accepted.

CALLING ALL MUSICIANS AND SINGERS! Do you play the guitar? ukulele? octavina? Do you like to sing Christmas carols? Are you interested in providing music for hundreds of marchers during the Parol Lantern Festival & Parade?
