1) Serve Immigrant Seniors!!

Veterans Equity Center Immigrant Food Assistance!! EVERY Thursday 9am - 3:30pm VEC's weekly Food Distribution serves seniors and adults with disabilities.

We need volunteers to help set up, register and distribute food.

Description: The San Francisco Food Bank’s mission is to end hunger in San Francisco. It works toward that goal by distributing food and advocating for improvement in government food programs and policies. Nearly 150,000 San Franciscans, including children, low-income families, seniors on fixed incomes, people living with HIV or AIDS, the homeless and people struggling to move from welfare to work, live with the threat of hunger. Every Thursday at the Bayanihan Community Center, the SF Food Bank provides much needed produce and groceries to over two hundred seniors.
Volunteers are needed every Thursdays starting to fill the following shifts:

Shift 1: 9am to 1pm

  • unloading of shipments into the Center
  • sorting of produce and packaged goods
  • preparation of stations for distribution

Shift 2: 1pm to 4pm

  • check-in & registration
  • distribution of food
  • clean-up

Bilingual volunteers especially encouraged to come: Cantonese, Mandarin, Tagalog & Ilocano!

4) April - November 2008: The Filipino Housing Collaborative is a group of organizations advocating for affordable housing for San Francisco Filipino families and individuals. Organizations include SOMCAN, Manilatown Heritage Foundation and Filipiono-American Development Foundation.

Establishing the San Francisco Housing Fund!
Affordable housing remains one of the most challenging issues facing San Francisco. Well over half of San Franciscans pay more than 50% of their total income for rent and less than one in 10 can afford to buy the average priced house. Proposition B will establish the San Francisco Housing Fund, which will ensure that a portion of the City’s annual budget is dedicated to creating and preserving affordable housing – without raising taxes. The Filipino Housing Collaborative, a group of organizations committed to advocating for affordable housing in San Francisco, endorses Proposition B and needs your help to pass this much-needed legislation.
